DC’s Franciscan Monastery in Spring

DC

Nestled in a residential corner of NE DC near Catholic University, the Franciscan Monastery of the Holy Land in America is one of the most beautiful local spots to visit in the spring. The upper grounds are carpeted in tulips of all colors with and redbuds, dogwoods, and Kwanzaan cherry trees dotted between the cloister walls. Follow the curving path down into the lower garden and you’re surrounded by azaleas; they weren’t quite out when we visited this past weekend but they were hinting at the vibrancy to come!

from a 2021 wander when Claire was only a few months old!

We brought my mother-in-law to the monastery on a beautiful Sunday afternoon when she was in town - we’re running out of secret non-tourist sites to take her, but the timing was perfect to check this one off the list!
