From Summer to Winter Skincare: My Product Shelf
I first got into skincare in spring 2020, when my sister Sarah - whose collection of potions would make the Sanderson sisters jealous - rode out the first six months of the pandemic at my parents’ house in the Maryland suburbs. She was horrified that I didn’t really have a routine and, with an assist from the store/brand formerly known as Follain (now Credo), taught me about serums, oils, and balms.
I spent about a year messing around with products on my own, followed and unfollowed too many skincare influencers on Instagram to count, and then, in August 2021, a branch of Heyday opened in Bethesda and I met Tisha, my incredible esthetician. She’s a wonderful educator as well as facialist and she taught me so much about my skin and what it needs. I’ve learned enough, in fact, that I now know my skin requires different products to stay healthy in cold weather - richer, heavier, and more moisturizing. This sounds obvious when I spell it out, but it really wasn’t something I’d thought about before!
With Sarah and Tisha’s help, I’ve curated a shelf of skincare that keeps my face hydrated, hopefully not aging prematurely, and mostly break-out free. I recently switched from my summer to my winter products, and I thought that transition a good excuse to share what I use! Everyone has different needs, but my skin isn’t anything special and I highly recommend all of the below.
twice a week at night: Tretinoin (prescribed by my dermatologist)
as needed: One Love Organics Skin Savior Waterless Beauty Balm, Sunday Riley Juno Antioxidant + Superfood Face Oil (a gift from my sister-in-law)
