Workwear IRL: Nice Jeans

My whole career has been in the arts which, the gallery girls cliché aside, is a pretty casual field. I’ve often been able to wear jeans to work - especially on days when I don’t have external meetings. Of course, I still want to look put-together, so I always make sure to have a pair of dark, slightly structured jeans in my arsenal. My go-to for years was the Old Navy Rockstar but, last time they had a sale, I took the plunge and ordered a pair of the Seine style jeans from Universal Standard after reading Alison’s raves on Wardrobe Oxygen.

(To be fair to US, $98 isn’t bad for full-price denim. It’s just a lot to pay when you’re used to Old Navy sales!)

I love them. I love them so much that I now have them in two colors, Dark Indigo and Distressed Blue. I wear the former to work on in-office days with nice flats or boots and a tailored top, and it’s just stretchy and comfortable enough to throw on for weekend errands. I’m keeping an eye out for more sales so I can try the Joni, a slim but not skinny style, in black, which I think will be a good addition to my denim drawer and which I’ll also be able to wear to work. I’m also considering the Donna or the Etta, but I think I’ll need to take my measurements again before ordering either.

Anyway, here’s me in the Seines the other day with a plaid flannel shirt, knock-off Rothys that I found at the thrift store, and my trusty Longchamp! Not pictured: the keys poking out of the hole in a bottom corner of my bag and boring a hole into my side.
