Spring/Summer Make-up
When I was in my early 30s - I can’t remember exactly how old, but let’s pretend for the sake of this story that I do - I went to Blue Mercury to replace a product I’d used and loved for years: Laura Mercier’s Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer. I asked one of the women who worked there to help me find the correct shade, and she frowned slightly. After querying my full make-up routine, she pursed her lips thoughtfully and then asked me how old I was. 32, I said. (Let’s say I was, for narrative purposes.)
“And you’ve been using the Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer for years?”
I nodded.
She inclined her head in turn and said gently, “I might suggest that, at your age, you try a foundation with fuller coverage.”
Friends are always aghast when I tell this story, but she wasn’t entirely wrong; it was time to graduate to something a little… more. I think I ended up with a Givenchy foundation that I did wear until the bottle was emptied, and I do still slather on a proper foundation in the colder months. This past winter, I used the RMS ReEvolve Liquid Foundation. It was a little heavier than I generally prefer so I’ll be trying a different brand when fall comes around, though I made it through most of the bottle by the end of March because I hate waste. In the summer, though, my skin needs to be able to breathe and sweat. I first tried Saie’s Slip Tint last summer and absolutely loved it, so I grabbed another bottle in the Sephora sale two months ago.
I keep my make-up pretty simple on a day-to-day basis - you can see the full list of products I use below the collage. I’m eeking out the last of my Merit blush but have started playing around with the Rare Beauty product I included in that Sephora order. If I’m going out for the night, I’ll add a L’Oreal eyeliner pencil (which, according to a Google just now, has been discontinued). Lip color is where I play and the Gucci + Clinque combo below is my current pairing, though as you sometimes see on Instagram I’ll add layers of other products to get the right shade for whatever I’m wearing that day. I prefer a lighter, dewier look when it’s hot out, and I think I achieve that pretty well!
